Superstar Lionel Messi is rumored to return to his old club Barca on loan when Inter Miami’s MLS season ends.
The Argentine superstar left the Camp Nou team in the summer of 2021 when his contract expired. Messi joined PSG at that time and spent 2 years in France before becoming a free agent again in the summer of 2023.
He discussed the possibility of returning to Barca, but the Catalan team did not have the financial means. Therefore, La Pulga chose to join Inter Miami.
He inspired this team to win the first title in history, the Leagues Cup 2023. However, Messi was injured when he returned to serve Argentina last month and has not been able to recover.
The Argentine superstar has been absent from 5/6 of Inter Miami’s last matches, causing this team to lose in the US Open Cup final and have almost no chance of participating in the MLS 2023 play-off round.
If there are no surprises, Inter Miami’s season will end on October 21. Thus, Messi will have a long time to rest when the new American season will only start in February 2024.
There are suggestions that Messi could – like David Beckham, Thierry Henry and Robbie Keane before him – return to Europe on loan while MLS is not playing.
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has promised to give Messi a chance to say goodbye to Barca in a more suitable way. However, Spanish newspaper SPORT announced that no negotiations have taken place regarding a loan contract for Messi with Barca.
