The 8 Most Exciting Reveals at the 2023 New York Auto Show

The Big Apple deserved some big reveals… literally.

The 2023 New York Auto Show is officially in the books, meaning we can now look back at all of the major reveals to see which ones made the biggest impact. Last year’s show was a little light after returning from its cancelation in 2021. The 2022 New York Auto Show’s most significant reveals included a special edition Ford GT, the Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica, the facelifted Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade, and a few concepts such as the Kia EV9.

This year felt far fuller, as if the Big Apple is getting some of its pre-pandemic mojo back. Some of the highlights include facelifted icons, stylish concepts, and two massively important electric vehicles. Here are the eight most important reveals from NY 2023.

2025 Ram 1500 REV

The largest reveal, both figuratively and literally, has to be the 2025 Ram 1500 REV. Though it’s not arriving at dealers for at least another year, the Ram REV throws down the benchmark by which all other electric trucks will be measured. Highlight specs include 654 horsepower, up to 14,000 pounds of towing capacity, a 229 kWh battery with up to 500 miles of range, 800-volt charging at 350 kW, and a future range extender model. The Ram REV looks like the electric truck to beat.

2024 Kia EV9

After being shown in concept form at last year’s NY Auto Show, the 2024 Kia EV9 made its official North American debut at this year’s event. Kia previewed the EV9 for a global market, but we now have important details about the US-spec version. The EV9 is larger than its gas-powered Telluride sibling and it’s more luxurious inside. It will offer two battery sizes yielding up to 300 miles of range with 215 hp in single-motor configuration and 379 hp with a dual-motor setup. Like other E-GMP cars, the EV9 employs an 800-volt charging architecture with 230 kW charge speeds.

Genesis GV80 Coupe Concept

Genesis loves showing up to auto shows with stunning concept cars that make everyone’s jaw drop, and the South Korean luxury brand has struck again with the GV80 Coupe Concept. Unlike recent Genesis Concepts, which seem more future-focused, this one could go into production with minimal changes. It’s essentially a GV80 with a coupe back end, meant to target the BMW X6 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe. We doubt the orange-backed racing seats will reach production, but the rest should be good to go.

2024 Hyundai Kona

Hyundai’s NY reveal might be smaller than its Kia and Genesis counterparts, but it’s still pretty important. After a global reveal, the 2023 Hyundai Kona and Kona Electric made their North American debuts in NY. The Kona boasts hot new styling with a single connected headlight and taillight bar. As before, powertrains include two gasoline four-cylinder engines, a naturally aspirated base engine, and a turbocharged unit for N Line and Limited trims. The Kona Electric sticks around with up to 260 miles of range, offering a cheaper EV alternative to the Ioniq 5.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Disney100 Platinum Concept

Though it wasn’t Hyundai’s main reveal, the South Korean brand also showed up with a unique concept car based on the electric Ioniq 5. It’s called the Disney100 Platinum Concept, and it’s meant to celebrate the legendary animation studio’s 100th anniversary. The car comes in a unique Gold Matte color with Disney-inspired wheels, and the headlights and taillights show Disney fireworks. Inside, the car displays a Disney-themed intro on the screen and has other House of Mouse-related touches like pixie dust etching in the roof. Hyundai has produced other Disney special editions before, like the Kona Iron Man Edition, so we expect this one to reach production.

2024 Volkswagen Atlas Peak Edition

Based on the facelifted 2024 Atlas that was revealed at this year’s Chicago Auto Show, Volkswagen has now added a Peak Edition model for both the full-size Atlas and the smaller Atlas Cross Sport. This is mainly an appearance package that includes body cladding, black exterior elements, and black wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Buyers who opt for the Peak Edition gain access to two new colors, Avocado Green and Pure Grey. There are some minor changes inside too, like orange stitching to match the badging.

2024 Jeep Wrangler

Jeep brought along a facelifted version of its legendary icon, the Wrangler, to the Big Apple. The same familiar Wrangler toughness is back but with a ton of improvements. The exterior boasts some minor updates and new colors, the interior offers more soft-touch material and a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen, and you can finally get power seats on a Wrangler. New trim levels have been added to the lineup, while the powertrains still include four-cylinder, V6, V8, and plug-in hybrid 4xe (the diesel is gone). As an added bonus to enthusiasts, the manual transmission is now available on the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine for the first time.

2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness

After revealing the 2024 Crosstrek in Chicago, Subaru showed up with the Wilderness version in NY. This is the new top Crosstrek trim, boasting more ground clearance (9.3 inches), bronze accents, black wheels with all-terrain tires, an upgraded X-Mode, and a weather-proof interior with StarTex seats. It may be the most expensive Crosstrek, but it’s also the least expensive Wilderness model of the trio at $31,995.
